School Schedule

When do you want your school breaks?
Unlike traditional schools, you have the freedom to decide when to take breaks. Are you biased to one season, cause I know I am! If so, follow what I call the "three season rule" below.
Schedule your school time to begin September 1st and run through the Fall/Autumn, Winter, and Spring months, ending approximately April-May, depending on if you take time off for Holidays during those months. This schedule keeps you hitting the books during the cold months and enjoying the summer days school -free for even longer!

Remember, the flexibility of homeschooling allows you to tailor your schedule to best suit your family. Take the time to experiment with different schedules and find what works best for you. Ultimately, the goal is to create a learning environment that is both effective and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Choosing your homeschool schedule can be an exciting yet daunting task. With so many options available, it's important to find what works best for your family. Below, we'll explore key points to consider when deciding on your homeschool schedule, including when to take breaks and how to cater to your family's unique needs and availability.

Do you hate when summer is over, and it's time to get back to hitting the books? Does the sound of more time in the sun, beach trips, and summer vacations sound amazing to you?
*If your family would appreciate more time off during the Winter, and Spring seasons, simply follow the "three season" school scheduling method to optimize your desired time off.

It's something about the way the leaves change colors and slowly drift to the ground that makes me want to stop everything and do "all things" fall! Maybe we just need some extra time to enjoy all the festivals, pumpkin spice lattes, and crisp air a little more.
Schedule your school time to begin December 1st and run through the Winter, and Spring months, ending approximately July-August, depending on if you take time off for Holidays during those months. This schedule allows for plenty of fall festival time. So grab your favorite fall coffee/tea, and hit as many festivals and apple orchards as you can!
Every family is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. Consider your family's specific needs and desires when creating your homeschool schedule. s
You may find that weekends work better for devoted teaching/school time, due to either parents' work schedule and/or kids weekly extracurricular activities or church obligations.
If you have young children, you might prefer shorter, more frequent breaks to prevent burnout. Older students may benefit from longer periods of focused study followed by extended breaks. This is true for both a daily schedule and a yearly schedule.
Additionally, think about any extracurricular activities or commitments for your family. Your homeschool schedule should be flexible enough to accommodate these activities while still providing a structured learning environment. For example if your child plays a sport for a couple months out of the year, several times a year, you could plan to take those months off and educate around the sport.

You may find that following your county's public school calendar aligns with your family's schedule. In this case you can school the traditional August/ to May schedule while taking the same holiday breaks and days off.
